Employment Benefits

The Georgia Department of Education offers a competitive package of benefits for employees and dependents. Highlights of the benefit plans include:

Benefit Details
Medical Insurance A choice of coverage through a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO).
Dental Insurance Employees can select from three dental plans, Regular, PPO, and Prepaid Dental Plans..
Vision Insurance Employees can select from single or family vision care.
Spending Accounts (Health/Child/Dependent) Helps employees save tax dollars on health related benefits for themselves and their immediate family members.
Retirement The Georgia Department of Education offers Employee Retirement System (ERS) and Teachers Retirement System (TRS) Plans.
Deferred Compensation Plans The Georgia Department of Education provides 401(k) Savings, 457, and 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuities Plans for eligible employees in order to assist in planning for their retirement.
U.S. Bonds Ability to directly purchase U.S. Bonds.
Life Insurance and
AD&D Insurance
Employees may elect to purchase additional life insurance for themselves or their dependents. The amount of coverage varies based on annual salary. In conjunction with Life Insurance, the Georgia Department of Education also provides a basic Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance. As with Life Insurance, employees may choose to purchase additional coverage.
Short Term and Long Term Disability Insurance The Georgia Department of Education provides Short-Term and Long-Term Disability coverage for all eligible employees.
Vacations Employees accrue paid vacation starting with 10 hours per month, 12 hours per month after 5 years, up to 14 hours per month after 10 years. Leave begins accruing at 5 hours per pay period, for a total of 10 hours per month.
Holidays The Georgia Department of Education offers twelve (12) paid holidays a year.
FlexTrans Employees are offered transportation, parking, and MARTA benefits.

Employee Credit Union The Georgia Peach Credit Union was chartered in 1954 and is a National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) member institution.
