Wanda Barrs
Eighth Congressional District

Mrs. Barrs serves the community as a parent, trained educator, small business associate and community volunteer. Educational background includes a B.S. in Home Economics Education, University of Georgia and a M.Ed. in Early Childhood from Georgia College & State University. Wanda has taught in public schools for 8 years and volunteered as a Project Learning Tree facilitator and educator for 13 years. She has conducted over fifty educator and student workshops, teaching more than 1000 educators and youth leaders how to use the national award-winning environmental education program with their students. Receiving the Outstanding GA PL T Facilitator award in 1990 and 1998, she was chosen one of five Outstanding PL T Educators in the nation in 1995. For the past eight years, each spring, hundreds of students Pre-K through 7th grade visit Gully Branch Tree Farm for a day filled with activities highlighting natural resources. Along with her work at Knapp-Barrs & Associates, a forestry consulting and real estate firm, Wanda seeks to collaborate with forestry related businesses to educate the public regarding trees as a sustainable natural resource.

Serving as chairman of the Cochran/Bleckley Family Connection Collaborative has allowed her to develop a strong network with public and private agencies to ensure services and programming for the success of families and children. As a local school board member for 12 years and chairman of the Bleckley County Board of Education since 1997, Mrs. Barrs challenges educators, communities, and policy makers to find the best avenues for enhancing the educational process.
